Recently I met Sarah from Convenience Store (the trade journal) and two models to photograph the cover and illustration photos for the cover article in the July 10th 2009 edition. My brief was to photograph teenagers / students purchasing typical convenience store items such magazines, chocalate and fizzy drinks.  We visited a recently refurbished Co-Op here in Brighton and although we were there mid morning we had to dodge the customers as we photographed several scenarios. Photographing for a cover requires a slightly different approach in that space must left top and bottom for the logo and copy. In commercial photography it is always great to see your work published but with a circulation of 41,000 per week this is my biggest print run yet!

My brief is to photograph the drinks reception beforehand, the VIPs on the Editor’s table and during the announcements the reaction from the winner’s table. I then photograph the award winner on their return from the podium ideally with the stage in the background. I finish with party photos afterwards.  It is a hectic evening and I edit and deliver the photos to the editor that night so it is a late finish. There are more photos from the layout below.
